Celebrities Who Stepped Out of the Limelight

It’s not surprising if a lot of people are envious of celebrities. Being a celebrity means having fame and fortune. It means being influential and that matters. Who doesn’t want that? That’s why it’s hard to understand some celebrities who just dropped out of the public radar. They’re already in an excellent position to make money out of their fame and yet they would choose to just disappear. Some people can’t get that.

Over the years there have been some celebrities who just dropped out of sight. Some of them were very famous and they would have had no problem when it comes to converting that fame into monetary gain. Yet, they chose not to use that fame in order gain money and even more fame. Others dropped out of the limelight not by choice, but they just lost the touch. They lost the magic somehow that made people interested in them. Many of those are actors who seemed to have lost their touch with the public. But there are those who are still interesting and yet they just chose to stay out of the limelight.

Here are just a few of the celebrities who we don’t see much these days.

Freddie Prinze Jr.

Being the son of a famous but tragic comedian helped Freddie’s career when he started out ,but he did manage to carve a name for himself early on. He became famous in the late 90s and early 2000s while staring in films that are geared towards teenagers. His films included I Know What You Did Last Summer, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, She’s All That and Summer Catch . He also starred in Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed .Because his movies were geared towards the younger audiences then, he became one of the ultimate heartthrobs of teens at that time. A lot of women who were growing up at that time would say that Prinze was their ultimate crush back then.

After Prinze married Sarah Michelle Gellar in 2002, his career slowed down. Instead of going on with being the heartthrob, he took to raising his family more seriously. He’s had some minor roles and other jobs since then, but we hadn’t seen as much as we did. In fact most people would be surprised to learn that he’s still around.

Cuba Gooding Jr.

Another junior on the list, Cuba Gooding Jr.’s career was really looking good in the 90s. He did some small roles on TV and movies in the late 80s. His big break came in John Singleton’s movie Boyz in the Hood where he was able to land the leading role. The movie was a success in the box office and was well-received by the critics. It is now considered to be a modern movie classic that deals with inner city life and crime. But Gooding’s biggest role and the high watermark of his career came when he starred in alongside Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire. The movie was nominated for Best Picture in the Oscars. But it also won Gooding an Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Gooding appeared in other good films afterwards, but soon he started appearing in films that were not received well by the critics and did not do well at the box offices as well. He has the distinction of getting two Razzie nominations in the same year for Daddy Day Camp and for Norbit. He appeared in The Butler, but that hasn’t managed to turn around his career so far.

Adrien Bordy

Adrien Bordy shot to prominence when he won the Academy Award for best Actor in 2002 for his performance in The Pianist. He was 29 at the time when he won the award, making him the youngest to receive the honor and the first one to be under 30. His acceptance speech for the award is also a very memorable moment, because of how he passionately kissed Halle Berry. After that he has not worked in any significant movie or has gotten a big role. He has not completely disappeared from the limelight but he has not been very active lately.

Brendan Fraser

Fraser made a name for himself by appearing in fantasy and comedic films. His most memorable performance would be in the Mummy film series which was a smash hit. But on top of his work in the Mummy films, he has numerous other movies under his belt. That includes Encino Man, George of the Jungle, Looney Tunes: Back in Action , Journey to the Center of the Earth and Gods and Monsters. His recent works were not so hot however. His Furry Vengeance was derided by critics. He has not completely disappeared from the public eye but his most recent efforts make some of his fans wish that he would just do that.

Joe Pesci

His roles in movies like My Cousin Vinny, Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Casino made him the favorite of many. He was the quintessential fast-talking character. When Pesci announced that he was retiring in 1999 some people didn’t take him seriously. He was a comedian after all and actors have been making claims that they would be retiring and they have not been true to that promise. But Pesci was dead serious after all. He has kept silent and has shunned interviews with the press. He has worked since his so-called retirement but none of those were large projects.

MC Hammer

MC Hammer is also known for his flashy dance moves and is also considered to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. Though there are those who consider him to be a sell-out. His career started to wane and he even filed for bankruptcy in 1996. But he’s been back on track though he would never come close to his status at the height of his stardom.

Vanilla Ice

Robert Matthew Van Winkle in real life is another huge musical star in the 90s. His Ice Ice Baby was the first hip-hop single to hit the top of the Billboard charts. But his dealings with his record label frustrated him. Van Winkle dropped the label and adopted a musical style that is truer to his tastes. His records since then has failed to chart but he still has a loyal cult following.

Milli Vanilli

Milli Vanilli was one of the biggest musical acts in the late 80s and the early 90s. Their songs were topping the charts and they were the hottest act there is.
